Dressing to be the DOC

I am trying to retrain my shopping style to think more about creating a wardrobe.  How will this fit into my lifestyle, with other elements in the closet?  Will this piece make it through a few seasons and dare we say a couple of years? Or is it simply a trendy item to enjoy for this moment?

I recently found myself in need of a dress that would work being in the role of Wedding Day of Coordinator.  So it would need to be comfortable enough to last for hours and be suitable for being on the job but also appropriate for being at a wedding (who doesn't want to have a pretty dress on at a wedding!).  As part of this Curated-Wardrobe-Thinking-Process one of the things I am trying to avoid is buying single-purpose clothing.  I wanted a dress that might have a chance of still being in rotation in a couple of years.

The simple yet elegant Carolina dress from JCrew delivered beautifully.  The pockets, silhouette, and ability to wear a "normal" bra make it extremely comfortable and functional... and the price is not too horrible.  But it is not all about practicality.  The shape allows it to be flattering for many body types.  The v-cut back is cute.  Add accessories such as fuchsia heels and a pretty necklace will take this dress from DOC to chic date.  This was a lovely find.

I selected black because lately that is what I wear... But they have quite a few lovely colors.  If I was planning my wedding for this summer (instead of two whole years ago) I would pick the pewter for bridesmaid dresses!

{TILT} Honey & Jam

Things I am loving this Thursday... Pretty details from moments of everyday life, sweetened by beautiful light and lovely tones.

Loving Hannah's work on the Honey & Jam flickr stream.  She has beautifully captured the lovely and serene of everyday.

Food Map An Urban Garden

How perfect is the Food Map Container for urbanites looking to grow a little something!  I want multiple of these cool containers.  I want to fill them with strawberry plants.  And maybe mint and basil too.

I love the simple yet pretty design.  And clearly while my thoughts are on tiny urban spaces, these would easily make the transition to a big girl backyard.

Cards for Mom

Have you gotten a sweet little card for mother's day yet?  There are lots of pretty options on etsy.

These charming little letterpress cards would definitely be a nice addition to the mail box!

Spring Basics & Keeping Dry

Spring showers have definitely been paying a visit.  Giving rain jackets and boots a work out.  It is not fun  to arrive at your destination soaked through!

I kind of love the look of a little black trenchcoat.  It is effortless. And can be done within all budgets... can you guess which one is $98?

And a black jacket with fun, bright shoes (or wellies) is my favorite combination.  I am fan of Hunter boots but there are lots of options at lower price points that will likely keep your toes just as dry.

And of course, one needs to have a trusty umbrella for April days...  I would take either of these!  I love the sweet but subtle polka dots in the Lotus umbrella and the splash of color in the mini sky umbrella .

Stay dry and remember that those april showers will bring May flowers!

Pretty Little Jewelry Stand

Looking for a solution to the piles of jewelry on the top of my dresser, I came across this pretty little jewelry stand with charming antique details...

It has such sweet details and I love this for the inspiration of a bedroom.  White, gold, brown/tan, and yellows with simple patterns would create such a relaxing environment.

Pretty Little Milk Glass

Milk glass vases have been on the blog circuit for years but I can't get enough of them.  I think they are nearly a necessity.  They are instant pretty, right?

Presenting Sweet Treats

After you spend hours baking and decorating a cake (or cupcakes) you kind of want an equally pretty stand to present, no?  Or maybe even just a pretty dish to dress up for sharing a few everyday cookies.

Rosanna has such pretty dishes.  I could see using these to present sweet treats for years to come.

Make the Bedroom Dreamy

I love the approach of "use your personality as the guide" for decorating and where better to reflect your personal style than in the bedroom.

Lately I have been loving light, white, and blue.  And simple always is a winner in my book!

That table in the first image has me swooning, even though it would not fit in with any of our current furnishings!  But little things like a pillow case with a pretty trim or a fresh patterned lampshade would be such simple ways to freshen up the bedroom.

Pretty Little Finds

Have I ever mentioned that I love online window shopping?  I just love stumbling upon some pretty little accent. Online window shopping is a particularly nice escape after an especially gruelling week.

These baby booties from HappySolez are seriously pretty.  If I had a little baby girl I would have bought them in a second.  They would make a cute addition to a shower gift...

And I am quite smitten by this pretty little ring from Kyle Anne Metals, it is the perfect blend of simple with a little pop.

And I adore this vase.  Quite honestly I like almost everything in Coucou Madame's shop.

Sometimes pretty little touches are just so fun to browse and to ponder how they might fit into your collection.
