Summer Break
Tara Posted on
Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 9:31AM I am taking a little summer break from blogging. One of my new year's resolutions for 2010 was to define a focus for this blog. On some level I love the flexibility to covering a multitude of topics but that can be just too open-ended sometimes. So I am hoping that this summer break will give me some time to freshen up the blog. I am also tossing around a few ideas along the lines of archiving and starting with a fresh blog stream... With the notion that a bit more time away from the computer will allow me to see more clearly in regards to what I want to blog about, if I want to blog, and if a fresh new blog will be as nice as it sounds right now. More than anything, I want to ensure that this blog is adding value in some way.
But I won't exactly be doing a full on, no posting allowed break. I have a few things I want to share (like an excellent dress for a day of being a DOC). So there will be a bit of popping in every now and then.
And as my last post was in May, it has now already been the longest break in posts since I started blogging here. So what I have been up to with all that free time?
Sitting under patio umbrellas on pretty streets enjoying Italian ice with frosty paw for the pups.
Growing things like tomatoes, basil, cucumbers, peppers, etc.
Enjoying garden mint mojitos in the backyard with my husband.
Being a good little loop worker bee. (for the non-Chicagoans the Loop is the business neighborhood)
Restoring a vintage side table (more of that very soon on EADL!).
Going to the beach with the furbabies as soon as we roll out of bed on Sundays.
Trying to find a few moments to breathe between marathon training, 365 Project, a photography class (of which this last photo was for an assignment), planning a camping trip and a trip to France, being a DOC for this cool bride, and a million random little life things.
I really hope that by taking a blog break I will be able to come back with all kinds of fresh ideas and finds so that this blog can be of value to you.

did you take all of those pictures?!!? if so, i love them! you have gotten so good!
I completely understand your reasoning for taking a blogging break, but all this post makes me think is, "I've missed Tara!" I love your voice and the little snippets from your days that you've shared here on your blog. I wouldn't worry a bit about adding value for readers - that will come organically just by you being you. I'd simply focus on figuring out what kind of blogging works for YOU, which is the most important thing - and I selfishly hope you figure that out sooner rather than later!
Enjoy. I guess that I've been on an unofficial break for a year and a half now. Ha! Your pictures are lovely.
I've missed reading your posts but I totally know how you feel when it comes to needing a break. Hope you have a fun summer and take lots of pictures. I love seeing your shots of the city!
Thanks, ladies! :)
Maybe I spent too long working in consulting (!?) - I always need to know that there is value there regardless of the project.
And yes, they are my photos- taking a photo a day really does change up your approach!
I hear you on the blog focus thing. I've been struggling with that. And, I'm totally jealous of your mojito drinking. ;)
Enjoy your break. I hope it's refreshing and inspiring!
Great photos Tara! Can't wait to see what stems from your break.
I totally love the first picture with the sun coming through the trees! Its heavenly!
tara, your voice and photos have definitely been missed. hope marathon training is going well!
I can absolutely relate to your need to unplug and refocus, but I do hope you return sooner rather than later! Enjoy the break. (And lovely photos, as always.)
