Selecting the Favors

This past weekend I did a little multitasking and started to put together the favor boxes while watching Lost dvds. However, now that the boxes are all ready, I have to figure out what and how to fill them. I had decided on cookies a long time ago and really would like to make them myself and possibly freeze them like a month ahead. Top contenders are madeleines, which I love, or doing a sampling of 'old school favorites' like oatmeal raisin, D's favorite.

I would love to use this recipe from Martha Stewart as these cookies are so pretty and look fantastic. But they can't be frozen and can only be made ahead a few days... I don't love them enough to be baking favors the day before the wedding!

I also thought about candy such as a dragee from The Cocoa Room... but D's comment to this was "Who wants candy? They will want cookies!" I think this maybe because of his personal preference and thought that he could sneak a few but his family is not really into candy so it is probably true that it would not go over as well as cookies.

We will probably do the madeleines as I am pretty sure I can freeze those for a month and they would still taste fantastic. I could order the cookies from somewhere like a Solomon's Gourmet Cookies but I didn't intend to spend that much on favors and with several dozen that would add up pretty quickly. I do think that favors that are edible are the best kind and we love cookies so now it is just about figuring out the best time to make all those batches of cookies!

You should post a picture of the favor boxes and I am totally with your fiance on this one, no candy will ever beat cookies!!

I don't know if this would fit in with your wedding but fortune cookies can last up to three months when sealed and it might be nice to add personalized fortunes. There's tons of companies online that will even do costum cookies dipped in all sorts of flavoured chocolate.
