Going to the market is such an enjoyable little outing. There is almost always plenty of inspiration waiting to be absorbed. And the produce is often simply beautiful.
For this season I am going to try to go to a different market each week (or as often as I can). Chicago has quite a few different Farmers Markets across the city (awesome, right!?). It will be fun to explore them and get out of the neighborhood.
For the first market visit of the season, we headed to the Division street market in the Gold Coast. This is actually the very first market I went to in the city. The morning after moving into my studio on Lake Shore Drive we headed out with Shelby (we only had one dog then, no Eddie yet!) in search of coffee and stumbled upon the farmers market. I think we purchased some danishes (among other things) that we ate on the only two plates that I had in my apartment... I haven't been to this market in six+ years so it was fun to head back.
The Division Street farmers market is lined up the street with bars as the background. It is quite the change from what you would have seen on the street six hours prior...

The market was quiet with a subset of the vendors, those that have spring products since it is pretty early in the season here in the upper midwest. It was pretty friendly and low key.

The asparagus was beautiful and tasted fantastic. I am already wishing we had gotten a second bunch. We got a handful of rhubarb stalks that turned into a yummy tart. And some herb plants... I am most excited about the lemon thyme.

I wish I had gotten a bunch of lilacs. They are so pretty and their fleeting season is nearly over. So what did you get from the market this week?
