City Sophisticate

Ever find yourself trying to figure out how to describe your style?  Me too.  I would never describe my style as traditional or contemporary or modern or vintage - I like bits from all of them!  So when I saw the Imagini My Deco Style Finder quiz I had to see what it might say...  apparently my style is City Sophisticate.  I like it!

I am really liking the My Deco site too.  The design your home section could be a great resource for playing with room layout options and creating mood boards.

A Visit to Sonia Roselli Esthetique

If you are a female in the Chicagoland area you need to check out Sonia Roselli Esthetique.  Sonia Roselli is one of the most coveted makeup artist in Chicago.  She is amazing.  And she has combined her talents, amazing sense of style, and southern charm to open up a gorgeous beauty boutique.  And when I say gorgeous- I really do mean gorgeous.  Sonia's attention to detail is incredible, even the chairs have pretty little details.  It is truly a place to go to be pampered and when I saw the photos I just had to share them.  So sit back with your cup of coffee and let's enjoy a little tour!

Fabulous, right!?  Now let's call in sick tomorrow and go for facials and to have our makeup done; talk about an amazing girls' day!  And definitely check out Sonia's blog it is full of pretty style inspiration.

If any of you dear readers are brides- check and see if she is availble for your wedding day as you will not be disappointed. I loved working with Sonia for my wedding; she made all of us look and feel gorgeous!

Say it isn't so...

Complete disappointment is what I felt when I read on Oh Happy Day that Domino is closing!

First Cottage Living magazine and now Domino!  The dreamer in me is hoping that the execs at Domino change their minds and then we would all let out a sigh of relief and continue receiving the little bits of Domino goodness in the mail each month....

French Press

When I heard about the letterpress studio French Press I was immediately interested.  I mean even if they didn't intentionally name their studio French Press after French press coffee that is what I thought of and I love French press coffee.  But while I love the name, their work speaks for itself.  It has that thoughtful quality that comes from a small independent shop.  And I also love that they have a "green" initiative- fantastic.

And they print fun posters!  How cool is this!?

French Press: Fun!

When I was planning my wedding I loved working with smaller, independent business owners.  They put so much of themselves into their work.  French Press also offers tours of their studio- how fun would that be if you either live in or traveling to the Buffalo NY area!?

Six Months Ago

Photos taken by Brian Kinyon

Six months ago today D. and I exchanged vows.  As it is absolutely freezing outside, July seems like a long time ago.  But we still find it amusing to call each other husband and wife.  And it is still such fun when we spend time with someone that was at our wedding and they bring up a memory from the day.  Immediately after the wedding people started asking the question of "does it feel any different to be married?"  The short answer is yes, it is fun to be an old married couple- it has been pretty awesome!

Penned and Pretty

I was so excited to see the announcement that Penned and Pretty has opened its {virtual} shop doors!  Jessica Lynn, who shared her wedding planning journey with us on Tying The Knot, has launched Penned and Pretty, a calligraphy shop with a fresh, pretty style.  If you are planning a wedding or any upcoming celebration you must check out her very pretty work.

Wedding Style: un matrimonio formato

A few weeks back I stumbled upon un matrimontio formato which is a blog full of pretty wedding inspiration.  Juliette of un matrimontio formato has posted incredibly stylish wedding inspiration boards.  Each one has a different tone yet they all have this decidedly European, fresh, clean style.  They are simply pretty and equally lovely inspiration for bridal showers.

I am completely smitten with the gown on the left in her garden wedding inspiration board; a year ago I would have been a two dress bride if I had seen this!

Happy Friday!

Image via Orla Kiely

It is one of those weeks where I am beyond excited that it is the weekend.  Not because I have crazy exciting plans - but rather because I have so many projects that I really want to be able to cross of my to do list! Hopefully I will be able to share my first project with the new sewing machine with you all next week.  I wish I was going to be hanging out like the lady in the photo from the Orla Kiely website - doesn't it look like fun?

Shop the Sales in Lincoln Park

The shops of Lincoln Park are full of sales!  I love to shop Armitage, Halsted, and Webster boutiques/shops (I should say window shop as some of these are lovely but way out of my price range).  I love to shop independent/local shops (not all of the LP shops are such but some are so...). I love to shop sales (the only way to shop in my opinion). So it is a win all around this weekend!

A Sweet Valentine's Day Dinner

Sometimes a dinner at home can be incredibly sweet and romantic. Partly due to not having to share an intimate dinner with all of the other couples out celebrating but also due to the effort that goes into preparing a special dinner.  And with the economy as it is, it might be just the year to think about celebrating some occasions a bit more low key.  Handmade gifts and an elegant dinner at home sounds like a lovely Valentine's Day tradition.  But of course, if going the handmade route it is helpful to start gathering ideas sooner rather than later.

Gourmet has very elegant menu suggestions for a romantic dinner for two.  It is hard to go wrong with a menu that starts with Herbed Crepes with Smoked Salmon and Radishes served with Raspberry Smash Cocktails.

I might select the Chocolate Fondue with Candied Orange Peel, Raspberries, and Almont Macaroons for dessert...

Sounds like a sweet valentines day to me...
