Getting Ready: Hair & Makeup

Friday, September 19, 2008 at 12:00PM Everyone has their own unique set of priorities for their wedding and how they will spend their money. Some upgrade their linens, some pay for a flash wedding website, some go after Louboutin shoes... me, I splurged on a rock star makeup artist for my family, my favorite hair stylist, and a room with a view. While some of you were dreaming about your wedding day in third grade, I was reading every word in my big sisters' Seventeen magazine and trying on their blue eyeshadow and blue mascara (it was the eighties). I was so excited for the "Beauty Time" part of the day.

My mom was so cute. She has never worn makeup and was really worried about it... but she looked gorgeous. And yes, I did just post a photo of me sans makeup with au natural hair... eek!

This was what I was excited about... women of four generations just enjoying themselves and feeling beautiful...

This is a prime example of where I get my tendency to freak out... I most likely was telling her that I forgot something as a joke...
And of course I was also excited about how I would look on my wedding day...
My hair stylist is so smart... he waited to do the "bangs" until after makeup so that the side sweep wouldn't be in her way...
Oh how I love getting my makeup done... I truly think that it is worth it for your wedding day to splurge on an amazing makeup artist... even if that means you have to figure out how to DIY for the invitations.

And for the finishing touches before getting dressed... I remember at this point thinking, "Wow! I am a bride!"
I love how my hair turned out... especially as I gave my poor hair stylist a new "inspiration" just days before the wedding... he pulled it off perfectly. And I love my Twigs & Honey piece...
Did I mention our room with a view? While the Ambassador East is a bit in need of a rehab, I kind of loved that we got ready for our wedding here. We stayed at this hotel our senior year of college when we came to Chicago on spring break. And we lived blocks from here for our first 2 years in Chicago. So the view while getting ready was the same one as that of our first apartment.
Next posts will cover the accessories and dress and the guys getting ready.

I'm loving the photos, Tara. I also LOVE the stories you tell.
Funny, random bit of info :: my second year of college I lived at The Three Arts Club, which was 1300 N. Dearborn Ave, just 2 blocks from The Ambassador East. We could have been neighbors--I was there from Oct '00 - June '01.
Actually, when I saw that photo that you love of you walking through the neighboorhood, I though "that's gotta be Dearborn"
Love the pics. Your hair and makeup look great! Too bad I live in a small town without a makeup artist to be found!
Oh how I wish that I would have budgeted better to be able to splurge on hair and makeup for my lovely ladies (I also wish I would have pared down my bridesmaid list a little bit so I could actually afford this!)
I love love love getting my makeup done as well. If only I loved the results as much as I loved the experience. I guess I am pretty picky about who does what to my face...
So fun!
I love all your photos... what a gorgeous wedding! I also am in LOVE with your Twigs & Honey piece... I want one!
Loving the flower in the hair! Loing the view!!
I love that this amazing view had extra special meaning. What a lovely way to prepare for your day! Can't wait to see the rest of the pics--I am loving them all!
Thank you everyone for your kind words! It was such a special part of the day...
Regardless of whether you hire a MUA or not it is an amazing feeling preparing for your wedding day.
Make-up looks incredible and I love, love, love your hair! I couldn't agree more about Hair and makeup being worth the splurge. As is very evident in your photos already, you are GLOWING!
