Dresser Facelift Completed

Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 7:00AM A couple of weekends ago we decided to give our old, hand-me-down dresser a facelift. This dresser was Dan's childhood dresser. It did not fit in with our bedroom but we wanted to keep it instead of replacing it as it was free! Usually we have been setting it inside the closet so it wasn't visible but our current closet is a bit on the mini side of closets so it is out in the open and was not looking pretty...

So we added a couple coats of black paint and door knobs. The door knobs I wanted at a favorite store were a bit out of our price range for this project (dear anthro, $8 for a door knob adds up!) so I was pleasantly surprised to find these simple white & brushed nickel ones at Home Depot for $2.30 (this was easier to swallow for this project). So for about $30 and a couples hours worth of time, we completed our little facelift project for the dresser. In my opinion, it looks totally different and so much better! We didn't sand out the nicks or dents so it has a nice time worn edge to it (fitting for a dresser of it's age).

We are super happy with the outcome- it definitely looks a bit more in place with the rest of our stuff. Facelifts for old hand-me-downs or thrifted furniture has to one of the more economical options for finishing a look or furnishing an apartment

Wow, what a transformation! That darker color & the door pulls make a tremendous difference.
This reminds me of the many DIY projects I have to do around my own house - yikes!
can you come re-do mine!? :)
omg it's absolutely fabulous!
You did such an amazing job!
This turned out fabulous! You just inspired me to go to the local goodwill and find some nightstands and get them looking great! Can't wait to see more of your projects!
Keep Hobby Lobby in mind for knobs. They're typically 50% off every other week and they have some of the SAME ones as Anthro... great finds!
Thanks, ladies! I am very happy with how it turned out.
I didn't even think of Hobby Lobby for the knobs- thanks for the tip!
