Loving Right Now.

I am so looking forward to autumn leaves.  There are little glimpses into what is ahead scattered around our neighborhood.  That brings a smile to my face.

Also bringing a smile to my face are a few super inexpense wardrobe additions.  Nothing big ticket here... just a few simple and easy things.

A fresh lip color is something I always get at the change of a season - right now I am loving burt's bees red dahlia lip balm that I found out about from a friend's post on red lipstick.  Red lipstick is not for me but this lipgloss has a nice tint to it that makes it easy to wear.  Jeans are such a challenge - a classic bootcut is working for me right now.  And I am so glad that I picked up a lightweight button down shirt from Target - it is so comfortable and a nice change from tshirts on the weekend.

Dressing for June

Dressing for the month of June is some of the best in my book.  The weather is (usually, Chicago pretty unpredictable!) beautiful and there is just something in the air with all of the summer fun ahead.

Dresses are my favorite for this month.  For me, they are so much more flattering than shorts.  And after a chilly spring I am looking forward to the light, breezy feel of a comfortable dress...

And of course, sunglasses are a must...

I usually live in basic black teva flip flops during the summer but this month I am pretty tempted to switch it up...

And finally, I am very tempted to get a hat this summer.  I am not convinced that I will actually wear it so right now I am just admiring and pondering.  What do you think?  Are fun summer hats a yeh or neh?

What is in your shopping cart for dressing in June?  I didn't purchase much for new summer clothes last year so am in need of sprucing up the wardrobe this year! And seriously, does anyone actually wear those cute summer hats (outside of Wicker Park) or do they sit in the closet?

A New Trench for These Rainy Days

I know that I don't even need to go there about the weather we are having this spring.  It has been such a slow spring, right?  The funny thing for me is that I usually kind of enjoy spring showers.  But the gray dismal tones of this spring have got to move on!  Bring on the sun!

One of the things that I have been needing forever is a new staple spring/fall jacket.  It may (or may not) surprise you, but I hardly ever shop and sometimes take forever to replace things in my wardrobe.  I would kind of rather save for a new lens!  But anyways, I absolutely had to get a new jacket. I could no longer make due with wearing the current one, the one where the lining was ripping out.

After a little hunting I landed on this Michael Kors one from Bluefly.  And I love it.  The shape is good- not to structured for this shorty with curves but not so loose it is shapeless.  The single buttons work for me (double-breasted is not always flattering on my shape).  I like the stitching detail and the color is right (not too light!).  Success!

This April has been chilly so I am all about the summer weight scarves right now... and loving black patent pumps.

bits of spring

I don't know about you, but this spring has been a very slow start.  I am itching to start packing away winter garb but it has been quite cold so the wool coats and gloves are still in heavy rotation.  To keep the spring fever at bay I have been slowly adding little pops of springy-goodness...

A fresh new lipstick and gloss... a lighter and brighter scarf... both go a long ways to lightening up while it is still chilly out.

And a few light colored items have made their way into my closet... I really do like wearing black but this time of year it is so nice to work in lighter colors for a little lift.

It is still too cold to pack away the socks and bust out the open-toe shoes but I am so anxious for that day!  Anyone else taking baby steps to start shifting into spring and lighten up the look?

wrap and tie

Scarf season is going to be around for quite a while yet...  I usually just do the wrap around and go but maybe switching that up would bring a freshness to the winter uniform as we get closer to spring...

Although I have to say, I find wrapping the scarf around and tucking it under the parka to be the warmest. Maybe once we hit that magic day of March 20th cuteness can triumph over warmness? Let's hope so.
