A SMASHing Regional Anomaly

I was beyond thrilled to learn about SMASH in a recent ReadyMade article on the zingy clothing store and design/screenprinting shop in Des Moines Iowa that is described as a regional anomaly.  First because I love fun, independent businesses and I find the designs by SMASH entertaining.

Second because I love my home state, Iowa, and find it hilarious when people think that it 'the potato state.'  I found it so funny when I met a guy from NYC and he had no idea where Iowa was, I have met countless people who assume we must grow potatoes, and other still others confuse Iowa with Ohio...   So the sense of humor that I see in SMASH designs and some of the more 'Iowa-centric' designs make me laugh.

Maybe it is a little bit the tie to Iowa or my tendency towards independent shops or maybe it is just the sarcastic sense of humor... Either way I think they are pretty fun shirts and a cool company.  Check out their other designs and more about the company here.

"America: Where only the insured survive" is truly brilliant.

Funny! My fiance was a Hawkeye and now works for a NYC-based firm and I don't think they had any idea what/where the University of Iowa was!

Terese- I was a Hawkeye too and often run into people who have no idea where the University of Iowa is... and I always thought the Big Ten was so known! :)

Love it! I love the No Coast...I've lived in 3 of the no coast stated shown. I also love the White Kids Unite with Che Guevera pic on it.
