A day in the life...
Curious as to what a typical week day looks like for me?
I wrote a day in the life post for EADL and there are way to many pics of the random pieces of my day.

my life Beautiful summer days set the scene for a memory of a trip to a pool... but I say run, don't walk, off to enjoy a summer's day.

I recently tried my hand at furniture restoration on a cute little craigslist find side table (with help from my trusty assistant, the husband)...
From this:
Complete with a million little scratches from the wear and tear of 50+ years.
To this:
Nice and smooth without a hint of a scratch. {ignore that wierd little plant of Dans and all the ugly cords!}
I posted up more about the story over on Elizabeth Anne Designs Living so head on over and check it out (and there are a few more pics of the process (and close ups) on flickr)!

The Home I am trying to retrain my shopping style to think more about creating a wardrobe. How will this fit into my lifestyle, with other elements in the closet? Will this piece make it through a few seasons and dare we say a couple of years? Or is it simply a trendy item to enjoy for this moment?
I recently found myself in need of a dress that would work being in the role of Wedding Day of Coordinator. So it would need to be comfortable enough to last for hours and be suitable for being on the job but also appropriate for being at a wedding (who doesn't want to have a pretty dress on at a wedding!). As part of this Curated-Wardrobe-Thinking-Process one of the things I am trying to avoid is buying single-purpose clothing. I wanted a dress that might have a chance of still being in rotation in a couple of years.
The simple yet elegant Carolina dress from JCrew delivered beautifully. The pockets, silhouette, and ability to wear a "normal" bra make it extremely comfortable and functional... and the price is not too horrible. But it is not all about practicality. The shape allows it to be flattering for many body types. The v-cut back is cute. Add accessories such as fuchsia heels and a pretty necklace will take this dress from DOC to chic date. This was a lovely find.
I selected black because lately that is what I wear... But they have quite a few lovely colors. If I was planning my wedding for this summer (instead of two whole years ago) I would pick the pewter for bridesmaid dresses!

The Look I am taking a little summer break from blogging. One of my new year's resolutions for 2010 was to define a focus for this blog. On some level I love the flexibility to covering a multitude of topics but that can be just too open-ended sometimes. So I am hoping that this summer break will give me some time to freshen up the blog. I am also tossing around a few ideas along the lines of archiving and starting with a fresh blog stream... With the notion that a bit more time away from the computer will allow me to see more clearly in regards to what I want to blog about, if I want to blog, and if a fresh new blog will be as nice as it sounds right now. More than anything, I want to ensure that this blog is adding value in some way.
But I won't exactly be doing a full on, no posting allowed break. I have a few things I want to share (like an excellent dress for a day of being a DOC). So there will be a bit of popping in every now and then.
And as my last post was in May, it has now already been the longest break in posts since I started blogging here. So what I have been up to with all that free time?
Sitting under patio umbrellas on pretty streets enjoying Italian ice with frosty paw for the pups.
Growing things like tomatoes, basil, cucumbers, peppers, etc.
Enjoying garden mint mojitos in the backyard with my husband.
Being a good little loop worker bee. (for the non-Chicagoans the Loop is the business neighborhood)
Restoring a vintage side table (more of that very soon on EADL!).
Going to the beach with the furbabies as soon as we roll out of bed on Sundays.
Trying to find a few moments to breathe between marathon training, 365 Project, a photography class (of which this last photo was for an assignment), planning a camping trip and a trip to France, being a DOC for this cool bride, and a million random little life things.
I really hope that by taking a blog break I will be able to come back with all kinds of fresh ideas and finds so that this blog can be of value to you.
Volume 20, May 9 - 15th

I am not completely sure if the Chicago weather has been matching my moods this week or if it has been a part of causing them. Either way, the weather has been down right moody this week. In the picture above with the train and the fog you should be able to see all the way down to the Board of Trade (it was that foggy!) and for the commute home (the one above was taken on the way to work) there was a complete break in the storminess with clear skies. The clouds and changes in light have been amazing though. And my Friday lunch break in Millenium Park was exactly what I needed...
Last week I finally got Lightroom. I am loving it. But have a lot to learn in regards to using it for processing. Every time I use it I figure out something new.

If you want to see completely tuckered out doggies, leave your pups at doggie playcare for 4 days while you are on a little getaway. Our pups had such a good time socializing that there little voices were worn out, have you heard a beagle howl when they have lost their voice?
We were in a bit of slow motion this week, with that relaxed state of mind carrying over from our California trip. I have been on a pineapple kick lately... it is just so good!
I am very behind on my project 365 posts! I have been taking the pictures but my schedule has been crazy. So it is time to play catch up!
Volume 18; April 25 - May 1

The highlight of the last week of April was our little getaway to California. It was absolutely wonderful and very much needed. I heart California and getaways.
Things I am loving this Thursday... Pretty details from moments of everyday life, sweetened by beautiful light and lovely tones.

Loving Hannah's work on the Honey & Jam flickr stream. She has beautifully captured the lovely and serene of everyday.
I have been loving the work from Gilt Groupe lately. While sometimes the items or brands they are featuring are either not my style or out of my price range, sometimes it is a perfect match. So I am pretty excited to see that they are now going to have a fully dedicated home section. There have been a few home/nesty type sales in the past but now there is a full on Guilt HOME!

With brands like Andrew Martin, Angela Adams, Cuisinart, Dayna Decker, John Robshaw bedding, Kim Seybert, Kyocera, Ligne Roset, Menu , Missoni Home, Omaha Steaks , Rock & Republic pets, and Voluspa candles how could one not want to see what is new for the day?! If you need one, here is an invite.
